Major tech players—including Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Sony, and OpenAI—are involved in C2PA or related initiatives like the Content Authenticity Initiative and Project Origin. These efforts help verify the origin and integrity of digital content. Despite this, X is not currently listed as a member of C2PA, and the company has not confirmed whether it’s adopting such standards. Musk’s announcement gives no indication of the technical foundation behind the new feature. It’s unclear whether the system will detect only AI-generated content, all post-processing edits, or something in between. Other platforms are moving in this direction. TikTok labels AI content, Spotify and Deezer are labeling AI music, and Google Photos uses C2PA to indicate image origins. X’s new feature may be part of a broader trend, but without transparency on its methodology, users and creators remain in the dark.
