Japan's Robotics and Manufacturing Leaders Build on NVIDIA Cosmos

NVIDIA has announced the launch of Cosmos 3 Edge and the expansion of the NVIDIA Cosmos Coalition to Japan, positioning the country as a central hub for the next generation of physical artificial intelligence. The initiative aligns NVIDIA's latest edge computing models with Japan's established strengths in robotics, manufacturing, and precision engineering to accelerate the deployment of autonomous systems across industrial, automotive, and infrastructure sectors. At the core of the announcement is Cosmos 3 Edge, a four-billion-parameter world model built on the NVIDIA Nemotron framework. Designed specifically for edge deployment on NVIDIA Jetson Thor, T2000, and T3000 platforms, the model enables embodied AI systems to process visual data, reason in real time, and generate robot policies locally without relying on cloud infrastructure. NVIDIA is also releasing updated Metropolis libraries that utilize coding agents to streamline the development of video intelligence systems, reportedly accelerating development cycles by a factor of six. Developers can adapt the Cosmos framework for specialized robotics, vehicles, and sensor environments in approximately one day. To foster broader industry adoption, NVIDIA is onboarding a comprehensive coalition of Japanese technology and manufacturing firms. Joining the effort are AIRoA, FANUC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kubota, NEC, SoftBank Corp., Sony Group Corporation, Yaskawa Electric, Enactic, Honda R&D, GROOVE X, Mitsui and Co, OMRON, Shimizu Corporation, and Telexistence, among others. Coalition members will leverage open models, data curation tools, and simulation frameworks to test and optimize physical AI applications before real-world deployment, significantly reducing development timelines for factories, logistics networks, agricultural operations, and smart urban infrastructure. A flagship industry initiative is being spearheaded by Fujitsu in partnership with FANUC, Yaskawa Electric, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. This collaborative control platform will integrate NVIDIA's physical AI stack, including the Isaac robotics development suite, Omniverse NuRec libraries, and the Newton physics engine. The system is designed to unify digital twins, robot learning, and simulation-to-real workflows, enabling seamless translation of AI models from virtual environments to physical machinery. Meanwhile, NEC, Hitachi, OMRON, and Preferred Networks are advancing industrial AI research through Cosmos, SoftBank is developing a physical AI platform paired with AI-RAN connectivity initiatives, and Kubota and Kawasaki Heavy Industries are targeting autonomous agriculture and multi-sector industrial automation, respectively. Commenting on the strategic partnership, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that Japan stands at a pivotal moment to redefine modern manufacturing through intelligent industries. By combining its historical expertise in robotics and industrial technology with NVIDIA's open physical AI stack, Japanese innovators are poised to lead the integration of artificial intelligence into tangible machines and infrastructure. The expansion of the Cosmos ecosystem in Japan marks a significant step toward scaling autonomous systems that can operate independently in complex, real-world environments.
