Summit Report Details Math Research in the Age of AI
Thirty-two mathematicians from academia, government, and industry gathered last week at the Harvard Center for Mathematical Sciences and Applications for the Summit on Math Research in the Age of AI. Organized by Dan Freed of Harvard, Larry Guth of MIT, Bryna Kra of Northwestern, Emily Riehl of Johns Hopkins, and Mohammed Abouzaid of Stanford, the two-day meeting aimed to help the mathematical community navigate rapid advances in artificial intelligence and shape future research practice. Participants worked in five thematic groups covering evaluation, production, and dissemination of research; coordinated actions for the AI era; open-source tools; formalization in mathematics; and collaboration between academia and AI laboratories. The organizers said the summit’s findings and proposals have been published on the event’s website, where readers can also submit feedback and take part in public discussion.
