Dimension Capital Raises $800M Third Fund Targeting Science and Compute

Dimension Capital, a venture capital firm focused on the convergence of science and compute, has announced the closing of its $800 million third fund. The New York-based firm, launched in late 2022 by Zavian Dar, Adam Goulburn, and Nan Li, has demonstrated rapid scaling, with the new fund representing a 60% increase over its $500 million second vehicle raised just 18 months prior. This aggressive growth trajectory underscores the market validation of the partners' thesis that deep-tech companies bridging biotechnology and software are poised for significant expansion. The firm's strategy relies on identifying foundational technologies at the intersection of biological research and computational power. Co-founders Dar and Goulburn, formerly partners at Lux Capital, joined forces with Obvious Ventures alum Nan Li to target this emerging niche. Early performance metrics suggest the investment theses have materialized faster than anticipated. Dimension Capital co-led a $30 million seed round for Chai Discovery, a developer of open-source artificial intelligence models for drug discovery. Chai Discovery recently secured $400 million at a $3.8 billion valuation, highlighting the demand for AI-driven biotech solutions. Additional portfolio successes reinforce the fund's focus. Dimension Capital backed New Limit, an anti-aging startup co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, at its Series A round in January 2025. The company recently completed a Series C financing at a $3.1 billion valuation. Other notable investments include inference-focused firm Modal Labs and the generative AI developer Anthropic. Dimension Capital acquired a stake in Anthropic following the AI company's $400 million acquisition of Dimension's portfolio drug discovery platform, Coefficient Bio, earlier this year. The rapid deployment of capital and the escalating valuations within the firm's portfolio signal a robust intersection between scientific innovation and computing infrastructure. Dimension Capital's ability to raise successive funds amidst a broader venture capital tightening illustrates investor confidence in the deep-tech sector, particularly where advanced compute capabilities drive breakthroughs in healthcare and biological research.
