US artificial intelligence company OpenAI and the Trump administration are exploring a potentially groundbreaking cooperation plan in which the US government would hold an equity stake in OpenAI. According to reports by CNBC, discussions between the two sides regarding this concept have been ongoing for more than a year and remain underway. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman first proposed related ideas to the Trump administration as early as 2025.
