OpenAI President Withdraws $25 Million Pledge to AI Super PAC

According to The New York Times, OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman and his wife Anna have canceled plans to contribute an additional $25 million to the AI industry super PAC "Leading the Future." The couple had collectively donated $25 million to the organization in 2025 and originally planned to provide the same amount again in 2026, so this withdrawal does not affect the initial donation already made. The report indicates that Brockman told colleagues inside OpenAI as early as June that the political organization had become a "distraction" for the company, and the couple had no plans to continue donating. Their earlier funding of Leading the Future had sparked controversy within OpenAI, with some employees and policy executives concerned that the organization's stance against strict state-level AI regulation could be perceived externally as representing the company. However, there is currently no evidence that a significant number of employees have criticized Brockman specifically over the cancellation of the additional donation. OpenAI has previously emphasized that the company has not donated to any super PAC, that the Brockmans' political contributions are personal actions, and that Leading the Future does not represent OpenAI's policy positions.
