SpaceX Discloses Approximately $40 Billion in GPU Financing Commitments
SpaceX said in a regulatory filing disclosed on Monday that it has secured approximately $40 billion in financing commitments for the procurement of AI chips and related data center equipment. Under the disclosed arrangement, entities managed by Apollo Global Management will purchase the equipment and lease it to SpaceX; the lease term for each batch of equipment is approximately five to five and a quarter years from the time of delivery. The transaction is expected to close by the end of this year, subject to closing conditions, with leases anticipated to commence sequentially in the first half of 2027 as equipment arrives. Apollo’s statement said the transaction will support SpaceX’s purchase of NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin chips for on-premises computing infrastructure. SpaceX Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnson said the leasing arrangement broadens funding sources and supports the expansion of Grok and cloud services businesses. Previously announced third-quarter results showed AI business revenue of approximately $7.6 billion and quarterly capital expenditures of nearly $20 billion. Musk, citing the financing news, predicted that emerging cloud service providers primarily relying on renting out AI computing capacity will face industry consolidation; this remains his judgment rather than an already realized outcome.
