Google Expands AI Opportunity Fund by $12 Million to Train 720,000 Workers and 100,000 MSMEs in Asia Pacific
Google.org is expanding its AI Opportunity Fund by $12 million to better equip workers, small businesses, and nonprofits in the Asia Pacific region for the AI-driven future. This investment includes a significant boost of $10 million to the Asia Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), aimed at training 720,000 workers and 100,000 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the region. MSMEs play a crucial role in the Asia Pacific economy, making up 96% of all companies and employing up to 80% of the workforce. However, they often face significant challenges in adopting AI technologies, such as limited access to training programs, inadequate digital infrastructure, and scarce financial resources. By providing this additional support, Google.org aims to address these barriers and ensure that these businesses can thrive in an increasingly AI-powered world. The fund's expansion also includes a $2 million grant to Infoxchange, an organization dedicated to helping nonprofits leverage technology for social good. This grant will enable Infoxchange to reach 10,000 nonprofits in the Asia Pacific region with AI training and tools, including the latest features from Google for Nonprofits, such as the recently launched Gemini updates. This initiative will empower these organizations to use AI to drive positive change and improve the efficiency and impact of their work. As the global economy shifts towards greater reliance on AI, ensuring that this transition is fair and inclusive is paramount. The Google.org AI Opportunity Fund: Asia-Pacific is a critical step in this direction, aiming to provide the necessary knowledge and tools to all workers. Through these partnerships and ongoing efforts, Google.org is demonstrating its commitment to making AI accessible and beneficial for everyone, regardless of their background or the size of their enterprise. This initiative not only supports economic growth but also fosters social progress, ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely shared across the region.
