Kevin Weil, an executive formerly in charge of scientific research projects, stated on social media that his "OpenAI for Science" team would be dismantled and merged into other research directions, adding that he himself will leave the company. At the same time, Bill Peebles, head responsible for AI video application Sora, also announced his departure. Previously, this project had been shut down last month due to cost constraints and computing power limitations. In his statement, Peebles noted that the team made significant efforts to ensure the technology was deployed responsibly. Additionally, CTO Srinivas Narayanan, who oversaw enterprise-grade applied technologies, confirmed his resignation, stating he plans to devote more time to family. Insiders indicated that his exit has no direct connection to the aforementioned restructuring. On the business front, OpenAI is advancing toward unified product and commercial strategies. The research tool Prism previously managed by Weil will be integrated into developer assistant Codex, which is expanding beyond programming into broader application scenarios. These organizational changes coincide with the company's initiative to scale back "non-core projects" while strengthening enterprise services. This strategy, led by Head of Applications Fidji Simo, aims to drive profitability and prepare for an IPO. Currently, Simo is on medical leave lasting several weeks. Notably, OpenAI's leading position in the enterprise market faces challenges from Anthropic. Leveraging new products, Anthropic has gained favor among corporate clients and secured high valuation expectations in capital markets, further intensifying industry competition.
