OpenAI has announced a strategic partnership with Infosys to integrate its artificial intelligence tools, including the coding assistant Codex, into Infosys's Topaz AI platform. This collaboration aims to assist clients in modernizing software development, automating workflows, and deploying AI systems at scale. The initial focus of the integration will be on software engineering, legacy modernization, and DevOps operations. The move comes at a critical time for India's IT services sector, which faces pressure from slowing client spending and rapid advancements in generative AI. Infosys shares have declined by over 22 percent this year, driven by weak forecasts, investor concerns that AI tools could automate traditional outsourcing roles, and broader macroeconomic instability related to the conflict between the U.S. and Iran. By aligning with OpenAI, Infosys seeks to pivot its business model to leverage AI capabilities rather than merely defending against automation. This agreement reflects a broader industry trend where AI firms partner with global IT services providers to accelerate enterprise adoption. OpenAI has previously collaborated with HCLTech, while Infosys has also formed a similar partnership with Anthropic. Through this deal, OpenAI gains access to Infosys's extensive global client base and delivery network spanning over 60 countries. The companies stated that the partnership is designed to help enterprises transition from experimental AI usage to large-scale deployment. Infosys has been actively expanding its AI business segment. Earlier this year, the company reported that AI-related services generated 25 billion Indian rupees, approximately 267 million U.S. dollars, in revenue during the December quarter. This figure represents roughly 5.5 percent of its total revenue, signaling a growing reliance on high-value AI services. The partnership with Infosys is part of a larger initiative by OpenAI to expand its enterprise footprint through Codex Labs. Launched on Tuesday, Codex Labs involves engineers working directly with clients to facilitate the deployment of OpenAI tools. The program includes initial partners such as Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, PwC, Tata Consultancy Services, and Infosys. The goal is to build a robust distribution network to scale the adoption of Codex, which currently boasts more than 4 million weekly active users. While the collaboration aims to accelerate AI integration for large corporations, the companies did not disclose specific financial details of the deal.
