Earlier this month, the companies demonstrated a proof-of-concept in which Valar's reactor supplied power to an Nvidia AI chip, signaling a concerted effort to address the escalating electricity demands of artificial intelligence infrastructure. As data center energy consumption projects steep growth and regional utilities face multi-year capacity shortfalls, nuclear energy has emerged as a critical component of the AI hardware boom. Valar's backers include prominent technology investors such as Anduril founder Palmer Luckey and Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar. Valar operates in a competitive and heavily regulated sector. The company targets the small modular reactor market, an emerging field that also includes Kairos Power, TerraPower, and NuScale Power, the latter holding the only current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission design approval. To navigate prolonged licensing timelines, Valar joined several states and industry peers in litigation against the NRC, challenging the agency's application of traditional regulatory frameworks to smaller reactor designs. The case remains pending, though repeated pauses suggest potential settlement negotiations. Founded by twenty-seven-year-old Isaiah Taylor, Valar reflects a broader shift toward next-generation nuclear infrastructure driven by private capital and technological innovation.
