The company targets the small modular reactor market, an emerging field that also includes Kairos Power, TerraPower, and NuScale Power, the latter holding the only current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission design approval. To navigate prolonged licensing timelines, Valar joined several states and industry peers in litigation against the NRC, challenging the agency's application of traditional regulatory frameworks to smaller reactor designs. The case remains pending, though repeated pauses suggest potential settlement negotiations. Founded by twenty-seven-year-old Isaiah Taylor, Valar reflects a broader shift toward next-generation nuclear infrastructure driven by private capital and technological innovation. Despite theoretical manufacturing advantages, small modular reactor technology remains in its developmental stages, and industrial-scale deployment timelines are uncertain.
