Meta’s US Data Center Investments Fuel AI Growth and Local Economies with $600B Commitment, Creating Thousands of Jobs and Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure

At Meta, we are dedicated to advancing the next generation of AI products and building personal superintelligence for everyone. Central to this mission are our data centers—critical infrastructure that powers our AI innovations and helps the United States maintain its global technological leadership. That’s why we are investing over $600 billion in the U.S. by 2028 to expand AI technology, modernize infrastructure, and grow our workforce. These investments are already driving tangible economic impact across the country. Meta’s data center projects have been a catalyst for job creation and economic development since 2010. They have supported more than 30,000 skilled trade jobs and 5,000 long-term operational roles. As one of the largest customers of U.S.-based general contractors and manufacturers, we are bringing over $20 billion in business to subcontractors nationwide. This includes support for steelworkers, pipefitters, electricians, fiber technicians, and other essential tradespeople who are constructing AI-optimized facilities that meet the demands of tomorrow’s technology. We are committed to building responsibly. To meet our energy needs, we partner closely with local utilities to plan and invest in grid infrastructure. To date, our direct investments have enabled hundreds of millions of dollars in new and upgraded grid capacity, adding 15 gigawatts of new energy to U.S. power systems. Our data center designs are engineered for efficiency, using significantly less water than industry standards. We are actively restoring water to local watersheds and are on track to become water positive by 2030. Beyond infrastructure, we are deeply invested in the long-term health of the communities where we operate. We support local development by upgrading roads, water systems, and public services. We prioritize sourcing labor and materials locally whenever possible and invest in STEAM education programs in nearby schools. Through our Data Center Community Action Grants, we’ve awarded $58 million to schools, nonprofits, and community organizations. These funds have helped launch STEM programs for underserved youth, train veterans in emerging technologies, provide meals for seniors, and support other vital local initiatives. As AI continues to transform industries and everyday life, the role of data centers will only grow. Meta remains committed to expanding our infrastructure responsibly while strengthening the communities that host us—building not just for the future of AI, but for the future of America.
