In action movies, there must be a highly skilled hacker who always hides in houses or trains. His image is also very fixed, he looks like a nerd, drinks Coke and wears headphones, and he rarely confronts criminals head-on.
But their mission is always crucial, breaking into firewalls to obtain confidential information, shutting down surveillance, opening and closing doors. No matter what major event comes, they are always there to play a key role in securing victory.
In fact, they have been protecting the world.
Case 1: In-depth investigation into the flow of problematic vaccines
In recent days, the problematic vaccines of Changchun Changsheng have shocked the whole country. In the face of national economy and people's livelihood, a programmer spent 14 hours using public information on the Internet to trace the source and sort out the procurement details of vaccines in various provinces across the country in recent years.
The anonymous programmer has hosted the entire survey project on GitHub, which includes vaccine procurement lists for various provinces and cities from 2016 to 2018. Due to the particularity of the websites of each province and city, no crawler was used.
Instead, they had to search and download manually one by one, and the entire search process took nearly seven hours.
In the latest update of the project, the programmer explained some of the problems and explained his starting point and purpose for doing this.
He only made some simple responses to these results.Although this purchase list does not cover all batches of problematic vaccines,However, this public and detailed data has made more ordinary people realize that individuals can also participate in the supervision of public power, so that doubts will no longer be perfunctorily addressed and the truth can be brought one step closer to citizens.
Case 2: ALS patient hero
In the past few years, an "Ice Bucket Challenge" movement has been popular on social networking sites around the world. Its purpose is to help ALS patients attract the attention and care of the whole society. From presidents and celebrities to internet celebrities and passers-by, everyone has rushed to participate in this good cause.
ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a type of motor neuron disease (MND). This disease affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, making it impossible for patients to walk and eat, and gradually they lose their ability to speak.
A group of programmers stepped forward, and an AI technology company, Lyrebird, launched an application in cooperation with an NGO concerned about ALS.The program, which allows ALS patients to speak with their own voice, is called Revoice.
Relying on Lyrebird's deep learning algorithm, patients only need to provide high-quality recordings 2 to 3 hours before the onset of the disease. The algorithm will record characteristics such as timbre and pitch, generate a unique sound, and use it as the baseline sound of the sound generator.
Combined with an assistive reader, you can communicate with your own voice just by looking at the text on the screen. Just like Stephen Hawking is also a generator for ALS patients, but Hawking's voice generator can only produce a robot voice without any characteristics.
Although this technology allows patients to communicate with their own voice, it requires the system to have the patient's voice data when they are healthy. If the patient cannot provide this data, it will be difficult for the system to generate the voice.
To this end, the Revoice project will open the voice library function in the second half of this year, allowing more ALS patients to store their voices before their condition worsens so that generators can be tailored for them, and it will be officially put into use by the end of the year.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has made the world pay attention to the ALS community, and society is also taking practical actions to help ALS patients build confidence in life.
The Revoice project uses technology to allow them to communicate with their own voice after becoming ill, which is undoubtedly one of the most useful and motivating ways for patients. To some extent, this may completely change their lifestyle.
Case 3: Rainforest Guardian
The tropical rainforest is a rare and precious treasure on the earth, maintaining the local ecological balance. However, there is still a large amount of illegal mining and poaching, which affects the fate of the tropical rainforest and local humans, animals and plants.
As a non-governmental, non-profit environmental protection organization, Rainforest Connection's engineers are using TensorFlow to protect the earth's tropical rainforests.
Using equipment equipped with solar panels, they are able to monitor the rainforest 24 hours a day.
All sounds will be uploaded to the cloud for analysis and processing.Find audio that is different from the natural state from a large amount of sound data, such as gunshots, chainsaws, truck engines, etc., determine the sounds and locations of loggers or poachers, and transmit them to local police and conservation organizations in a timely manner.
Currently, Rainforest Connection has installed the system in tropical rainforest areas in Sumatra, Indonesia, Cameroon, Africa, northern Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, and the live sounds of these forests can be heard on the official website.
Superhero holding a keyboard
Like all superheroes,
Programmers use their keyboards and codes as weapons.
