AAAI 2020 is about to kick off, but the epidemic situation is severe, and many Chinese scholars may not be able to travel to New York, the United States, across the ocean to participate in the conference. In view of this, the AAAI 2020 organizing committee has also given a solution in a timely manner, and scholars can choose to give speeches and present posters remotely.

Top conferences in the field of artificial intelligence AAAI 2020(The 34th) will be held in New York, USA from February 7 to 12, local time.

AAAI was rated as one of the seven Class A international academic conferences by CCF

However, this year, under the influence of the new coronavirus epidemic, some countries have entered a public health emergency, and the US government also announced on February 2 that "foreigners who have been to China in the past 14 days (except green card holders and immediate family members of US citizens) are prohibited from entering the United States."

Therefore, many Chinese scholars may not be able to attend the conference as smoothly as in previous years.The AAAI 2020 organizing committee has recently issued a notice related to the epidemic.Corresponding solutions were proposed for scholars who were unable to attend the conference.

The organizing committee is concerned about the health of the participants

First and foremost, AAAI expresses its deepest concerns for all AAAI-20 participants who have been impacted by the current coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

They assured that the conference would proceed as normal and that they would be in contact with the conference venue (the New York Hilton Midtown), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and New York City and state agencies to provide attendees with relevant information regarding recommendations for disease prevention and treatment.

Some virus prevention measures provided by the organizing committee for participants

The organizing committee also provided participants with information about the spread, symptoms, prevention and treatment of the new coronavirus to ensure everyone's health. In addition, the organizers also prepared some commonly used medicines on site.

Chinese participants and authors can attend the conference remotely

In order to ensure the smooth progress of the conference, the organizing committee expressed regret to the many Chinese participants who could not attend the conference due to the epidemic, and also stated that they would help the Chinese participants as much as possible. If possible,The paper will be presented to the group, or a remote or video presentation will be provided if necessary.

Therefore, friends who are unable to attend the event in person due to the fight against the epidemic do not have to worry and can look forward to the "cloud conference".
For those who are directly affected by the coronavirus outbreak in China and are unable to attend the conferenceAll authors,The organizing committee provided solutions for the participants.

The organizing committee stated thatYour best bet is to find a colleague who can attend the conference and help you present your paper.However, if this is not possible, the committee offers the following options:

  1. Videos of presentations (oral or spotlight authors) may be submitted to the conference chair;
  2. If a full oral presentation (20 minutes) is planned, the conference host may establish a teleconference connection with the author during the conference to conduct the presentation remotely. Details will be arranged by the conference chair;
  3. If you have posters to display at the evening poster presentation, you can try to ask colleagues on site to help print and display them. If that is not possible, AAAI can arrange for printing and displaying them in New York. However, this service will cost a service fee of $96.
The organizing committee has sent an email notification to the participating authors.

The organizing committee stated that if remote video or video is chosen, the author would also be best to ask colleagues attending the meeting to help with the demonstration and answer questions or provide assistance in the event of a poor connection.

Chinese scholars: an important part of AAAI conferences

According to statistics, there were as many as 8,800 papers submitted to AAAI 2020, of which 7,737 entered the review stage, and finally 1,591 were accepted, with an acceptance rate of 20.6%.

Among these papers, the number submitted by Chinese authors increases year by year. In 2017, the number of submissions from China to AAAI accounted for about 30% of the total, surpassing the United States, and its influence has increased dramatically.

In the subsequent AAAI conferences, more and more Chinese people have appeared, and they have gradually become an indispensable part of AAAI. In 2017, AAAI even rescheduled the meeting because the original date conflicted with the Chinese New Year.

Due to the severe epidemic situation this year, many Chinese scholars (it is understood that the number of Chinese participants who cannot enter the country reaches 1/5 of the total number of participants) are unable to come to the site for presentations and exchanges, which will leave some regrets. We hope that the epidemic will end as soon as possible and everything will return to normal.
