**Abstract:** On April 10, 2014, the "Joint Medical Academic Symposium of Tsinghua University, University of Pittsburgh, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and University of Hong Kong" was held at Tsinghua University's School of Medicine in Beijing, China. The symposium, a significant academic event, was co-organized by Tsinghua University and the University of Pittsburgh, marking a deepening of the existing medical collaboration between these two institutions. The opening ceremony featured distinguished speakers from each of the five participating universities. Professor Xi Qi-Kun, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Professor Arthur S. Levine, Vice Chancellor for the Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, Professor Nancy Ip, Dean of the School of Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor David S. Y. Chen, Dean of the School of Biomedical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Dany Chan, Assistant Dean at the University of Hong Kong, Professor Shi Yi-Gong, Director of the Institute for Life Sciences and Medicine at Tsinghua University, and Professor Bai Lu, Executive Dean of the School of Medicine at Tsinghua University, all delivered opening remarks. They collectively expressed their hope for the symposium to foster robust intellectual exchange, deepen mutual understanding and friendship, and strengthen future collaborations in areas of excellence among the five institutions. The conference was moderated by Professor Zhang Lin-Qi, Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine at Tsinghua University. The symposium spanned two days and included 27 presentations by 33 scholars from the participating universities. The presentations were organized into six thematic sessions: Cancer, Immunology, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, Structural Biology, and Stem Cell/Developmental Biology. These topics represent some of the most cutting-edge and critical areas of research in the life sciences and medicine. The event attracted over 60 faculty members and students from Tsinghua University’s School of Medicine and School of Life Sciences, who engaged actively and expressed their appreciation for the high-quality and informative content of the symposium. The collaboration between Tsinghua University and the University of Pittsburgh in the medical field has been ongoing and fruitful. A formal agreement for teaching and research cooperation was signed in 2011, which included a joint training program for students in the medical experimental class and regular academic exchanges. This symposium builds on the success of previous joint academic symposiums held in 2012 and 2013 at Tsinghua University and the University of Pittsburgh, respectively. For the 2014 symposium, the organizers extended their invitation to three additional prestigious universities in Hong Kong, thereby expanding the scope and impact of the event. The inclusion of the Hong Kong-based institutions reflects a strategic move to broaden the network of academic and research partnerships, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion not only enhances the diversity of perspectives and expertise but also opens up new opportunities for collaborative research and student exchange programs. The symposium was a platform for scholars to share their latest findings and insights, discuss challenges, and explore potential areas for joint research and educational initiatives. In summary, the "Joint Medical Academic Symposium of Tsinghua University, University of Pittsburgh, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and University of Hong Kong" was a successful and impactful event that brought together leading experts in the medical and life sciences fields. The symposium strengthened existing collaborations and laid the groundwork for new partnerships, contributing to the advancement of medical research and education in the region.
