GDHY 1981-2016 Global Major Crop Historical Production Dataset

The full name of this dataset is The global dataset of historical yields for major crops 1981–2016, referred to as GDHY. It is a global dataset that provides historical yield data for major crops in the world from 1981 to 2016. This dataset is a data product mixed with agricultural census statistics and satellite remote sensing technology, covering four major food crops: corn, rice, wheat and soybeans.

The GDHY dataset has a spatial resolution of 0.5° and a temporal resolution of annually, and is available in raster formats TIFF and NetCDF. The dataset is in tons/hectare and provides growing season data for different crops, such as maize and rice, which have "primary" and "secondary" growing seasons, wheat, which have "winter" and "spring" seasons, and soybeans, which have only a "primary" growing season.

The dataset was created in 2020 by Toshichika Iizumi and Toru Sakai, who updated the GDHY dataset to cover a 36-year time span and ensure the continuity of the yield time series by combining agricultural census statistics and satellite remote sensing data.
