Accounts receivable represent amounts due from previous transactions and cannot be added again on top of the $10 billion in revenue for the quarter. Microsoft did not disclose the respective contributions of Azure cloud services and revenue sharing to this revenue, so it is not possible to calculate the specific revenue-sharing amount paid by OpenAI to Microsoft based on this information. Simply multiplying the quarterly revenue by four yields an annualized figure of $40 billion, but this is not Microsoft’s revenue forecast for the coming year. Although the two companies have gradually relaxed the exclusivity arrangements of their early partnership and compete in certain customer markets, their financial ties remain close. In its filings, Microsoft stated that it holds an equity stake in OpenAI of approximately 24% on a converted basis and will continue to receive revenue-sharing payments. The figures above reflect revenue recognized by Microsoft related to the arrangement, not OpenAI’s own quarterly revenue.
