Google CEO Confirms Talks with Apple to Integrate Gemini AI into iPhones by 2025

18日前

Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed during a search monopoly trial on Wednesday that the company is in advanced talks with Apple to integrate its AI model, Gemini, into the iPhone. The negotiations are expected to conclude by mid-year, with a possible rollout by the end of 2025. If the integration is successful, Siri will be able to leverage Gemini to handle more complex queries, much like how it currently uses OpenAI's ChatGPT. Last June, when Gemini was first introduced, Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi hinted at the potential for incorporating various AI models, including Gemini, into Apple's Intelligent Services. "We want to enable users to eventually choose the models they prefer, such as Google Gemini," he stated at the time. The latest update emerged in response to questions from a Department of Justice lawyer, Veronica Onyema. When queried about the plans, Pichai simply replied, "Correct." He also revealed that he had discussed AI advancements with Apple CEO Tim Cook, noting that Cook was interested in understanding Google's AI roadmap and the distribution of the Gemini app. According to Pichai, Cook mentioned that Apple intends to introduce more third-party AI models to its Intelligent Services by the end of this year. Further evidence supporting the impending integration was discovered in February by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, who found references to "Google" as an Apple Intelligence model choice within an iOS 18.4 beta. Similar to the current ChatGPT integration, Siri will likely seek user permission to access Gemini for handling intricate tasks. ChatGPT, for instance, can analyze photos and generate images based on textual descriptions, enhancing Siri's capabilities significantly. This potential collaboration between Google and Apple could redefine how users interact with Siri, offering a more versatile and powerful assistant capable of tackling a broader range of queries and tasks. The move aligns with both companies' strategies to provide users with cutting-edge AI tools and underscores the ongoing competitive landscape in the tech industry where integration and collaboration often lead to mutual benefits.
