Good News | Academician Dong Jiahong's Team Wins Gold Medal at the 75th International Invention Exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany - Tsinghua University School of Clinical Medicine
**Abstract:** From October 28 to 30, 2023, the 75th International Inventions Exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, was held at the international exhibition center. The exhibition, marking its 75th anniversary, featured inventions from over 30 countries, with China invited as the guest country of honor. Among the nearly 800 projects showcased, a key innovation from the School of Clinical Medicine at Tsinghua University, led by Academician Dong Jiahong, stood out and won the gold medal for their "Remote Digitalization Clinical Research Technology Platform." The platform, developed through a collaborative effort involving the Digital Health Innovation Center of the School of Clinical Medicine at Tsinghua University, the Software College of Tsinghua University, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, and several medical technology companies, aims to address significant challenges in the global pharmaceutical and medical device innovation research field, such as high labor costs and inefficient processes. It leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence and trusted computing technologies to innovate in clinical trials. The core technologies of the platform include the NeuroFusion algorithm, the DataDeno architecture, and the TrustShield technology. The NeuroFusion algorithm effectively converts raw clinical data into actionable intelligence, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of data analysis. The DataDeno architecture automates the process of transcribing medical records, ensuring data integrity and reducing manual errors. The TrustShield technology, which employs multi-center distributed storage and blockchain accounting, significantly enhances data security and privacy. Additionally, the platform's MachineTrust technology overcomes the traditional problem of data silos, allowing for seamless data sharing and collaboration. The platform's innovative features include remote intelligent recruitment of clinical trial participants, intelligent transcription of medical records, and deep information mining of research data. By utilizing remote smart technology and a virtualized platform, it introduces a patient-centric approach to remote or hybrid clinical research and drug/device trials, effectively building a "highway" for digitalized clinical research. Since 2021, the "Remote Digitalization Clinical Research Platform" project has been piloted in Beijing under the guidance of the Beijing Health Commission and the Beijing Food and Drug Administration. Tsinghua University served as the technical design unit, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital as the pilot center, and the China Information Security Testing and Evaluation Center as the security assurance institution. The project has been implemented by Beijing Qingyi Wisdom Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Huakemean Medical Information Technology Co., Ltd. The pilot has successfully supported over 10 innovative drug clinical studies, including the Establist liver cancer downstaging study and the PD-1 treatment for esophageal cancer. The platform has been extended to multiple tertiary hospitals, including Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Huaxin Hospital, and Yuchuan Hospital, as well as several leading pharmaceutical research units. Future plans include expanding the collaboration to 10 tertiary hospitals in 6 districts of Beijing and over 50 hospitals and leading innovative pharmaceutical companies nationwide. This expansion aims to foster a new digital economy in clinical research, opening a new chapter in the field of pharmaceutical and medical device trials. The gold medal award was presented to Dong Jiahong, Deputy Director He Zhenfu of the China Invention Association, and project team members Zhao Yi, Feng Xiaobin, and Li Chengquan. During the exhibition, Feng Xiaobin, the project leader, also introduced the platform to Consul General Chen Linhao from the Chinese Embassy in Germany, highlighting its potential to revolutionize clinical research and contribute to the global medical community. This achievement underscores the commitment of Tsinghua University and its partners to advancing medical technology and improving the efficiency and safety of clinical research. The platform's success in the international arena is expected to attract further attention and collaboration, potentially leading to broader adoption and significant advancements in the field.
