Google Unveils AI-Powered Updates to Gemini and Classroom for Smarter Teaching and Learning at BETT 2026

At this year’s British Educational Training and Technology (BETT) conference, Google unveiled new AI-powered updates to Gemini and Google Classroom, designed to enhance teaching and learning across education systems. These advancements aim to streamline educators’ workflows, empower students with personalized tools, and support more effective, data-driven instruction. Gemini is now offering expanded support for education, including free access to Gemini 3 Pro—the most advanced model in the Gemini family—as well as Gemini 3 Flash and Nano Banana Pro, which enhance reasoning and visual understanding. These models help users generate richer, more accurate content, from detailed explanations to interactive visualizations. Students can now take full-length, no-cost, on-demand SAT practice tests directly in Gemini. These tests are built using rigorously vetted content from trusted education providers like The Princeton Review, offering a realistic and accessible way to prepare for the exam. The Google Classroom app is also getting smarter with Gemini integration. In the coming weeks, Gemini will be able to draw context from class materials to assist with tasks such as drafting assignments, summarizing student progress, and generating lesson ideas. Early pilot participants have already shared success stories, including using AI to quickly create engaging lesson summaries and automate routine planning tasks. Educators and students can now use NotebookLM as a trusted source within Gemini, enabling AI-generated content—like documents, web apps, images, and videos—to be grounded in their own curated materials. This ensures that creative outputs remain accurate and relevant to classroom learning. Gemini is also expanding into new learning platforms. With the upcoming launch of Gemini LTI, AI tools like the Gemini app and NotebookLM will be directly integrated into Moodle, allowing educators to bring AI support into their existing learning management systems. Google Classroom is being redesigned to serve as a more dynamic, actionable hub. The new homepage now features personalized dashboards: school leaders can view student engagement metrics, educators gain insights into class performance, and students see upcoming deadlines to stay organized. Teachers will soon receive actionable insights into how students interact with AI-powered resources like Gems and NotebookLM, supporting a transparent and reflective approach to integrating AI into learning. New assessment features include the ability to record and attach audio, video, and screen recordings directly within assignments, announcements, and feedback—making it easier to capture student thinking and provide rich, personalized responses. Assignments can now be tagged with learning standards from a growing list of global frameworks, including those from the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and soon Italy. This integration, powered by partnerships with 1EdTech and Common Good Learning Tools, helps educators track student progress and align instruction with curriculum goals. Expanded AI tools in Classroom allow educators to create audio lessons, instantly convert files into rubrics, and receive AI-suggested feedback for writing assignments—all without cost. The Gemini tab in Classroom is being redesigned for clarity and ease of use, with mobile access coming soon. These updates build on the more than 30 no-cost AI tools Google launched last year, continuing its mission to make powerful AI support accessible to every learner and educator.
