DoorDash has launched a new integration with ChatGPT, allowing users to shop for groceries directly within the AI chat platform. The feature, now live for select users and set to expand to all customers soon, enables users to turn recipe ideas into instant grocery orders with delivery from local stores in as little as an hour. The collaboration between DoorDash and OpenAI brings the convenience of on-demand grocery delivery into the conversational AI experience. Users can ask ChatGPT for meal suggestions—such as “Give me ideas for easy, hearty soups for dinner”—and then use the DoorDash app within the chat to automatically generate a shoppable grocery list based on the chosen recipe. To get started, users must enable DoorDash in their ChatGPT account settings, log in to their DoorDash account, and activate the app via the plus button in the chat interface. Once activated, the app can create a cart with ingredients from a wide range of retailers, including national chains like Kroger and Safeway, as well as regional favorites such as Bi-Rite, Schnucks, Fairway Markets, and Wegmans. The integration streamlines the entire process from inspiration to checkout. After building a shopping list, users can review and adjust their cart directly in the DoorDash app, then place the order and wait for delivery—all without leaving the chat. This move reflects a broader trend of AI tools being used to bridge the gap between digital discovery and real-world services. DoorDash’s goal is to save users time and effort by embedding shopping into the moments when they’re most likely to make decisions—like when planning a meal. The company also aims to support local businesses by connecting them with customers at the exact moment they’re searching for ingredients. The DoorDash app in ChatGPT is available on iOS, Android, desktop, and mobile web. While delivery times are based on average performance, actual times may vary. Merchant availability also depends on location and is not guaranteed. This integration marks the beginning of a broader strategy to expand AI-powered shopping beyond groceries into other local categories, further strengthening DoorDash’s position as a central platform for local commerce.
