Google Launches People Management Essentials Course to Empower New Leaders with Practical Skills and AI Tools

For over two decades, Google has studied what makes an exceptional manager. Now, for the first time, the company is sharing those insights with the world through the launch of Google People Management Essentials, a new course developed by The Google School for Leaders. Designed for new and aspiring managers, this program is built to help individuals build confidence and acquire the practical skills needed to lead high-performing, collaborative teams. Google’s research has consistently shown that investing in management quality leads to more effective, supportive, and innovative work environments—driving better team outcomes and business success. The company believes these leadership principles are universally applicable, and by making them accessible, it aims to empower leaders across industries to create stronger, more resilient teams. The course distills years of internal research into clear, actionable guidance. Taught by more than a dozen current and former Google leaders, it features real-world stories, personal experiences, and diverse leadership approaches. With a self-paced format that can be completed in under eight hours, the curriculum is structured around four core areas: building trust, setting clear goals, giving effective feedback, and fostering team collaboration. A standout feature of the program is its focus on integrating AI as a strategic partner in daily management tasks. Participants will gain hands-on experience using tools like Gemini and NotebookLM to create SMART goals, design project plans, and customize communications for different team members and stakeholders. The course is designed with flexibility in mind and requires no prior management experience. Google is also partnering with organizations such as E.W. Scripps, Shutterstock, the University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business, and Florida State University to offer the program to employees and students, supporting workforce development and career advancement. Great managers build great teams. By sharing its foundational leadership principles widely, Google hopes to nurture the next generation of leaders and help create a future where teams thrive, regardless of industry or location.
