Google Launches Gemini JEE Practice Tests in India, Expanding AI-Powered Exam Prep and Education Initiatives

Google is deepening its commitment to AI-driven education in India by introducing full-length practice tests for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) within Gemini. The JEE is India’s most competitive college entrance exam, used to select students for the country’s premier engineering institutions and taken by millions annually. The new feature allows students to take comprehensive mock exams directly in Gemini, powered by vetted content from leading Indian education providers PhysicsWallah and Careers360. After completing a test, Gemini delivers instant feedback, identifying strengths and areas needing improvement. It explains correct answers, offers personalized study recommendations, and helps students create customized learning plans based on their performance. This marks a strategic shift toward positioning Gemini not as a tool for quick answers, but as a structured, adaptive platform for exam preparation. The launch follows Google’s earlier rollout of AI-powered SAT prep tools, signaling a broader effort to integrate AI into standardized test preparation globally. In addition to Gemini, the JEE Main preparation resources will be available in AI Mode on Google Search, including the Canvas tool, which enables students to turn their class notes into study guides, interactive quizzes, and other learning materials. Google reports growing use of its AI tools among Indian students, who are leveraging Gemini to study advanced physics and other STEM subjects, as well as NotebookLM to convert study materials into flashcards, quizzes, and audio or video summaries. All tools are available in multiple Indian languages, enhancing accessibility across diverse regions. Beyond students, Google is expanding its focus to educators. The company plans to collaborate with government agencies on a nationwide initiative to equip teachers and administrative staff with AI tools for lesson planning, grading, and workflow automation. It is partnering with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University on a pilot project to establish an “AI-enabled state university,” aiming to build a national framework for integrating AI into vocational and higher education. Through its charitable arm, Google.org, the company has committed an ₹850 million (approximately $10 million) grant to Wadhwani AI to embed AI into government-run education platforms. The initiative will enhance national online learning portals and state-level education systems with tools like voice-based reading support in multiple Indian languages and AI-powered English learning coaches. The program spans pre-school through higher education and has already reached around 10 million learners and educators. Google aims to scale its impact to 75 million students, 1.8 million educators, and one million early-career professionals by the end of 2027.
