Anthropic and Coursera Launch New AI Courses to Boost Claude Skills for Developers and Professionals

Coursera has launched two new AI courses in collaboration with Anthropic, aimed at helping both developers and everyday professionals learn how to effectively use Claude, the AI assistant developed by Anthropic. The debut marks a significant step in expanding accessible AI education as workplaces increasingly integrate generative AI into daily tasks. The first course, titled "Building with the Claude API Specialization," is designed for developers and taught by Stephen Grider, a technical staff member at Anthropic. It covers practical skills such as test automation, code editing, and metadata management using Claude’s API. The second course, "Real-World AI for Everyone," is tailored for non-technical learners and was developed in partnership with Advancing Women in Technology (AWIT). It is taught by AWIT founder Nancy Wang and former Anthropic engineering manager Dan Mellott. Coursera CEO Greg Hart emphasized the urgency of AI literacy, stating, “Every job is being impacted by gen AI,” and stressing the importance of staying ahead of technological change. The courses were developed over two months following the announcement, with Anthropic prioritizing safety and effectiveness in AI use. Hart noted that Anthropic’s careful approach ensured high-quality content before launch. The generalist course consists of three lighter-weight modules, each containing 3 to 4 lessons. It begins with foundational tasks—like generating recipes or editing emails—and progresses to more advanced applications, such as simulating job interviews. Throughout, learners are guided by Anthropic employees, including a product manager and the company’s head of people, reinforcing the message that AI should be used responsibly and collaboratively. Maggie Vo, Anthropic’s head of education, said the courses aim to close the gap in confidence and skill when working with AI, offering learners the tools to go from basic setup to building AI agents. Coursera’s AI education push reflects a broader trend. Enrollment in AI-themed courses has surged—from one learner per minute in 2023 to 14 per minute in 2025. The platform now hosts over 1,100 AI courses, more than double the number from the previous year. Anthropic is not Coursera’s first AI partner. The platform has previously offered courses on Google Gemini and participated in OpenAI’s app store launch. Hart, who joined Coursera in February 2025 after leading Amazon Alexa’s development, brings deep experience in AI-driven products. He believes AI should be integrated into every aspect of learning, not just as a tool for efficiency but also as a way to prevent academic misconduct. “AI belongs in all aspects of learning,” Hart said, highlighting its dual role in enhancing education and promoting integrity.
