Snowflake Launches Cortex Code AI Agent to Revolutionize Enterprise Data Development with Context-Aware, Secure AI Coding
Snowflake, the AI Data Cloud company, has introduced Cortex Code, a new AI-powered coding agent designed to revolutionize enterprise data and AI development. The tool is built specifically for the Snowflake platform and enables users to create data pipelines, analytics, and AI applications using natural language, dramatically accelerating the journey from concept to production. Cortex Code stands out by deeply understanding an organization’s data context, including governance policies, compute environments, and operational workflows. Unlike generic AI coding assistants, it operates securely within enterprise systems and maintains strict compliance and control—key requirements for large-scale deployment. The agent is now generally available via the Cortex Code CLI, allowing integration with popular development environments like VS Code and Cursor. A version within Snowsight, Snowflake’s web interface, will launch soon. The announcement marks a significant expansion of Snowflake’s Cortex AI suite, which includes Snowflake Intelligence. Together, these tools aim to embed AI directly into every stage of the data lifecycle—design, development, deployment, and operations—while ensuring security, governance, and reliability. Snowflake is also introducing new capabilities to further streamline AI development. These include: Vibe coding with v0 by Vercel: A new integration that allows teams to build AI-powered data apps using natural language, which can be securely deployed in Snowflake via Snowpark Container Services. Agentic web search powered by Brave Search: Now in public preview, this feature enables Cortex Code and other agents to access real-time web data, improving accuracy and reducing hallucinations when answering questions about current events or market trends. Enhanced collaborative workspaces: Features like Shared Workspaces, Snowflake Notebooks, and OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication are now generally available, offering a unified, secure environment for teams to build and manage data and AI projects together. Early adopters such as dentsu, FYUL, LendingTree, Shelter Mutual Insurance, TextNow, United Rentals, and WHOOP are already leveraging Cortex Code to accelerate innovation. Users report significant gains in speed, consistency, and confidence when moving from experimentation to production. Joe Tobey of dentsu noted that Cortex Code aligns with existing workflows, enabling teams to scale data-driven solutions without disrupting established processes. Miks Lūsītis of FYUL said the agent’s contextual awareness has helped bridge the gap between idea and execution. Srinivas Madabushi of LendingTree highlighted how Cortex Code enables rapid iteration on AI-driven customer experiences. Snowflake’s leadership emphasizes that the goal is to move AI beyond isolated experiments and into the core of enterprise operations. By embedding AI directly into the data stack, Cortex Code empowers not just data engineers but also business analysts and domain experts to contribute meaningfully to AI development. The company continues to position its AI Data Cloud as the foundation for trusted, scalable AI innovation—where data, AI, and applications converge securely and efficiently.
