Joint Party Branch of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering at Four Universities Study the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China - Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University
On the morning of December 11, the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering (SKLCE) organized a joint theme party day activity titled "Deep Learning and Implementation of the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Promoting Self-reliance and Strength in Education, Science, and Talent." The event was attended by over 80 party members and non-party representatives, including prominent scientists and educators such as Professor Weikang Yuan from East China University of Science and Technology, Professor Weiyang Fei from Tsinghua University, Professor Qilong Ren from Zhejiang University, and Professor Li Wang, a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, also from Zhejiang University. The theme party day began with presentations from four key figures: - Professor Yue Wang, the Secretary of the Chemical Engineering Institute's Party Branch at Tianjin University, discussed the importance of actively practicing the national strategy of revitalizing the country through science and education in the context of the 20th CPC National Congress. - Professor Xuezhi Duan, the Deputy Secretary of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology's Party Committee and the First Secretary of the Joint Reaction Laboratory's Party Branch at East China University of Science and Technology, emphasized strengthening organized research in higher education to promote high-level self-reliance and strength. - Professor Haojie Yu, the Secretary of the Polymer Institute's Party Branch at Zhejiang University, highlighted leveraging the advantages in education, science, and talent to serve national strategic needs. - Professor Kai Wang, the Secretary of the Extraction and Separation Party Branch at Tsinghua University, talked about reinforcing national strategic scientific strength and refining the laboratory's innovation direction. During the discussions, several key points were raised: - Yuan Weikang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at East China University of Science and Technology, stressed the importance of advancing original and leading-edge scientific research and constructing strategic pivot points for global talent centers and innovation hubs. He also called for a transformation in university research paradigms and organizational models to better serve the nation. - Fei Weiyang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Tsinghua University, highlighted that scientific and technological development should be guided by national major needs, focusing on key core technologies, especially those that are "stuck in the neck" or critically needed. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of talent cultivation and developing outstanding innovative talents. - Ren Qilong, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Zhejiang University, advocated for strategic thinking and action, suggesting that as science and technology workers, they should implement the innovation-driven development strategy with the courage of innovation and perseverance, aiming to identify true needs, solve real problems, and formulate practical solutions. Further discussions were led by the directors of the laboratory's sub-rooms: - Wang Yujun, Yuan Xigang, Zhou Xinggui, and Li Boyu, who focused on the laboratory’s overall positioning and development direction in the new era. They discussed how the laboratory should concentrate on national major needs during its reorganization, develop green and low-carbon industrial technologies, and conduct organized research. The consensus was to adhere to technological self-reliance and innovation, providing strong support for the implementation of the national strategies of revitalizing the country through science and education, strengthening the country through talent, and driving development through innovation. In his concluding remarks, Professor Guangsheng Luo, the Director of SKLCE, highlighted the significance of deeply studying the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress to clarify the future construction direction of the国家重点实验室. He noted that SKLCE has a solid foundation for collaboration and a strategic geographical advantage, covering the Jing-Jin-Ji (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) and Yangtze River Delta economic zones. Luo emphasized that the laboratory will leverage its platform and cluster research advantages, guided by national major needs and supported by important research tasks, to adopt an "integrated" full-chain innovation model. This approach will facilitate organized collaborative research and contribute to the advancement of chemical engineering. The SKLCE, established in 1987 and operational since 1991, is a collaborative effort between Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Zhejiang University. The laboratory is positioned in the field of chemical engineering, focusing on cutting-edge research and addressing significant national economic and social demands. It conducts fundamental theoretical research, develops key technologies and equipment, and actively promotes the conversion of research results into practical applications. Over the years, the laboratory has received more than 30 national science and technology awards, significantly contributing to the nation's economic and social benefits. This event underscores the laboratory's commitment to aligning its research and development activities with the goals and strategies outlined in the 20th CPC National Congress, fostering a deeper integration of party building and business operations, and driving forward the mission of serving the nation through scientific and technological innovation.
