US Ignite Receives $3.9M NSF Grant to Launch SURGE Initiative for Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship Growth
The U.S. National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (NSF TIP) has awarded US Ignite a $3.9 million grant to launch Supporting U.S. Regional Growth & Entrepreneurship (SURGE), a new national initiative aimed at strengthening innovation ecosystems across the country. The program will empower regional coalitions with practical tools, expert advisory support, and access to a nationwide peer network to drive sustainable economic growth. SURGE is designed to help communities leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced connectivity, to foster entrepreneurship and expand local innovation capacity. By connecting regional stakeholders with proven strategies and collaborative opportunities, the initiative seeks to bridge gaps in technology adoption and economic development, particularly in underserved areas. US Ignite will lead the implementation of SURGE, building on its proven track record of advancing smart communities and digital infrastructure. The investment underscores the NSF’s commitment to fostering equitable innovation and strengthening the nation’s technological competitiveness through grassroots, region-based efforts.
