78% of Legal Professionals Use AI, but Maturity Gap Persists in Organizational Adoption

A new report from Litify reveals that 78% of legal professionals are now using artificial intelligence, marking a significant shift in the legal industry’s approach to technology. However, despite widespread adoption, the report highlights a growing maturity gap between individual usage and organizational integration. The third annual State of AI in Legal Report, developed in partnership with a leading national market research agency, surveyed hundreds of legal professionals across plaintiff firms, full-service law firms, and corporate legal departments. The findings indicate that while AI adoption has surged over the past two years, most professionals remain in the early stages of AI maturity. This is evident in the types of tools being used—primarily general-purpose platforms—and the limited scope of tasks, such as drafting documents or summarizing case materials. Few organizations have implemented AI at a strategic level or established measurable outcomes tied to performance or profitability. “Legal professionals are no longer debating whether to adopt AI—they’re already using it,” said Curtis Brewer, CEO of Litify. “But the real challenge lies in moving beyond individual experimentation to systemic, organization-wide transformation. To unlock AI’s full potential and deliver tangible value, firms must rethink metrics, redefine goals, and redesign workflows.” The report underscores that meaningful progress requires more than just access to AI tools. It demands cultural shifts, leadership commitment, and investment in training and infrastructure. Firms that succeed will be those that integrate AI into core processes, measure its impact, and align it with broader business objectives. Litify’s platform, which serves over 55,000 legal professionals and more than 450 enterprise clients—including major plaintiff firms, insurance defense teams, immigration practices, and Fortune 500 in-house legal departments—has been designed with AI-native workflows at its core. Features include matter and intake management, document generation, timekeeping and billing, legal hold, eBilling, mobile access, and advanced analytics. By embedding AI-driven insights and automation across the legal workflow, Litify aims to help teams make faster, smarter decisions, improve client outcomes, and elevate productivity across all levels of the organization. The report comes on the heels of Litify’s recognition on the 2025 Deloitte 500 and Inc. 5000 lists—two of the most prestigious rankings of fast-growing private companies in the U.S. and North America.
