OpenAI Launches RFP to Boost U.S. Domestic AI Manufacturing and Strengthen Supply Chain

Building the infrastructure to power advanced artificial intelligence presents a historic opportunity to strengthen domestic supply chains and reindustrialize the United States. If embraced, this moment can drive U.S. manufacturing growth, modernize the energy grid, create high-quality jobs, and reinforce American technological leadership. Throughout history, infrastructure has shaped America’s economic destiny—and in the Intelligence Age, that will be more critical than ever. At OpenAI, we are committed to playing our part. Since launching the Stargate initiative nearly a year ago, we have announced planned capacity that exceeds half of our 10-gigawatt commitment. These investments are already generating tangible benefits, including new jobs and economic development in communities across the country. Looking ahead, we will deepen our efforts to strengthen the broader domestic AI supply chain and accelerate investment in U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities essential to maintaining American leadership in AI. To advance this goal, we are today launching a new Request for Proposals (RFP) focused on U.S.-based manufacturing across key segments of the AI supply chain, including data center components, consumer electronics, and robotics. Our objective is to identify and support domestic production capacity that can reduce lead times, enhance supply chain resilience, and extend America’s technological edge as AI infrastructure expands. We are seeking proposals from manufacturers, suppliers, and partners who are already building—or ready to build—critical components and systems for the AI ecosystem within the United States. This includes racks, cabling, networking equipment, cooling systems, power systems, power electronics, electromechanical modules, and testing and assembly infrastructure. While discussions around AI infrastructure often center on semiconductors and data centers, the reality is that advanced AI relies on a much wider ecosystem of physical components. The seamless integration of these elements is essential to deploying AI at scale. Our RFP aims to build on existing momentum by identifying where strategic partnerships, clear demand signals, and coordinated planning can unlock faster growth, larger-scale production, and more sustainable U.S. leadership in AI. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with follow-ups to selected applicants. The deadline for submissions is June 2026. Responses will help shape future partnerships, procurement strategies, and long-term infrastructure planning. This initiative is part of a larger movement toward reindustrialization. Across the country, manufacturers are investing in advanced production capabilities to support the AI economy—opening new facilities, upgrading supply chains, and expanding skilled workforces. These efforts are vital to ensuring that the economic and technological benefits of AI are developed and shared within the United States.
