LinkedIn CEO Uses AI to Craft High-Stakes Emails, Calls Copilot His 'Second Brain'
LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky revealed during a fireside chat at the company’s San Francisco office that he relies on AI to help craft high-stakes emails, including those sent to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and other global leaders. He described using Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot, as having a “second brain” that understands his communication style and helps him deliver polished, strategic messages. Roslansky emphasized that AI isn’t used to write entire emails from scratch. Instead, he finds value in Copilot’s interactive approach—where the tool asks a series of questions to clarify the intent, tone, and key points before helping draft a response. This step-by-step guidance prevents the pitfalls of blindly asking AI to generate replies, which he noted can lead to poor decisions due to the AI making assumptions about context and direction. “Historically, there’d be a button that said, ‘Draft the reply for me.’ And it would just try to draft the reply,” Roslansky said. “The problem is that you're actually asking AI to make tons of decisions for you when you ask it to blindly reply to an email.” He added that he now uses AI for nearly every important email he sends, calling it “awesome” and a critical part of his daily workflow. His use of AI reflects a broader trend among executives. A June Gallup poll found that leaders—managers of managers—are adopting AI at twice the rate of individual contributors. Across industries, from tech to retail, top executives have told Business Insider they use AI tools to draft communications, review documents, and improve efficiency. Roslansky’s approach highlights a growing shift in how senior leaders leverage AI not to replace human judgment, but to enhance it—turning complex, high-pressure communication into a more structured and thoughtful process.
