Tampa General Hospital and Reimagine Care Launch Virtual Cancer Care Initiative to Reduce Hospitalizations and Expand Access to Patient-Centered Oncology Support

Reimagine Care, a leader in technology-enabled cancer care, has launched a virtual oncology collaboration with the Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Cancer Institute to enhance patient support, expand access to care, and reduce hospitalizations across the Tampa Bay region. The partnership integrates Reimagine Care’s AI-powered virtual care platform into TGH’s clinical workflows, aiming to strengthen oncology services amid rising demand for cancer treatment in Florida. As part of the initiative, TGH Ventures, the academic health system’s venture arm, made a strategic investment in Reimagine Care, reflecting its commitment to innovation and patient-centered care. The collaboration is designed to ease workforce strain on oncologists by automating after-hours symptom management, triage, and documentation—tasks that often consume significant physician time. By handling routine concerns virtually, the program allows clinicians to focus more on diagnosis, treatment planning, and research. The virtual care model offers 24/7 support through AI-augmented monitoring, early intervention, and seamless escalation to clinical teams when needed. This proactive approach has already proven effective at leading cancer centers, reducing emergency department visits and hospital admissions while improving patient satisfaction and treatment adherence. Dr. Abraham Schwarzberg, executive vice president, chief of oncology, and co-vice president of Clinical and Translational Research at TGH USF Office of Clinical Research, emphasized the partnership’s impact. He noted that the collaboration enables earlier intervention, prevents avoidable crises, and expands the system’s capacity to serve more patients without compromising care quality. Dan Nardi, CEO of Reimagine Care, highlighted the importance of extending care beyond clinic walls. “Cancer care doesn’t stop when clinic doors close,” he said. “Our mission is to provide continuous, compassionate support in patients’ homes—detecting issues early, reducing stress, and empowering patients throughout their journey.” The TGH Cancer Institute, ranked among the top 10% of cancer programs nationally by U.S. News & World Report and recognized as one of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for Oncology, brings academic excellence and comprehensive care to the partnership. Its affiliation with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine enables access to cutting-edge therapies, clinical trials, and interdisciplinary treatment strategies. With approximately 115,000 new cancer diagnoses annually in Florida and high regional mortality rates—especially in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties—the need for scalable, sustainable care solutions is urgent. The hybrid model combining in-person treatment with remote monitoring aims to improve outcomes by addressing symptoms before they escalate. Rachel Feinman, managing director of TGH Ventures and vice president of innovation at Tampa General, said the investment reflects a strategic effort to grow capabilities through partnerships with mission-aligned innovators. “By supporting companies like Reimagine Care, we expand access to advanced, specialized care—especially for patients managing complex conditions like cancer,” she said. Reimagine Care’s platform resolves 95% of patient concerns virtually, reducing avoidable ED visits and restoring physicians’ focus on meaningful patient interactions. The company envisions a future where AI enhances, rather than replaces, human connection in cancer care—making it more accessible, sustainable, and deeply human. Tampa General Hospital, a not-for-profit academic health system and the region’s only Level I trauma and comprehensive burn center, continues to lead in digital innovation, including its AI-driven clinical command center. It remains a critical safety-net provider, delivering care to all regardless of ability to pay, and is the nation’s top adult solid organ transplant center. With a growing network of virtual and in-person care locations, TGH is expanding access to high-quality oncology services across Florida.
