Figma CEO Dylan Field Champions Hiring Young, AI-Native Talent Amid Job Market Uncertainty

Figma CEO Dylan Field, 34, believes young professionals have a distinct advantage in today’s job market because they are “AI native”—a generation that has grown up alongside artificial intelligence and naturally understands how to work with it. Speaking on the “In Good Company” podcast, produced by Norges Bank Investment Management, Field addressed growing concerns among young people that AI is displacing entry-level jobs. “Does AI mean you should hire senior people, middle-level, or junior? Or are all the jobs going to disappear because AI will replace them all?” Field asked. “I’ve heard that prediction a lot, and it hasn’t come true yet. People keep saying it, but they’re still hiring.” Field emphasized that his personal hiring bias leans toward younger talent, not because they are more experienced, but because they often possess a deeper, intuitive grasp of AI tools and workflows. “I think people who are younger are AI native in a way that older professionals have to learn,” he said. “They didn’t have to adapt to AI—they grew up with it.” At Figma, the design software company that competes with Adobe, Field said the team has always maintained a diverse age range, but the company now prioritizes candidates who are not only skilled but also passionate about advancing AI-driven innovation. “It’s essential that people come in understanding we’re moving full steam ahead into the AI era,” he said. “If you’re resistant to AI, that’s fine for a dinner conversation—but it’s not a good fit for our culture or mission.” Despite broader economic concerns—such as stagnant job growth and high youth unemployment—Field remains optimistic. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ final 2025 report showed a labor market that has remained flat, and many economists warn that AI could slow hiring, especially for entry-level roles, as companies explore automation. Yet Field disagrees. In a previous appearance on “Lenny’s Podcast” in October 2025, he stated he doesn’t believe AI will eliminate human jobs. Instead, he sees AI as a tool that enhances human creativity and productivity, particularly for those who are comfortable using it from the start. For young professionals, he argues, AI isn’t a threat—it’s a launchpad.
