Google Gemini AI App Poised for Visual Overhaul with Scrollable Feed and Prompt Suggestions

Following the success of OpenAI’s video generation app Sora, which recently topped the U.S. App Store rankings, Google may be preparing a significant visual overhaul for its Gemini AI app. The company appears to be testing a new user interface that shifts away from the traditional chatbot format toward a more dynamic, scrollable feed filled with visually engaging prompts and images. The potential redesign was uncovered by Android Authority, which analyzed the latest version of the Gemini Android app. Though the update isn’t yet available to the public, reverse engineering revealed a new home screen layout. In this version, key features like “Create Image” and “Deep Research” are prominently displayed at the top, followed by a continuous feed of suggested prompts accompanied by eye-catching visuals. The suggested prompts are designed to spark creativity and guide users in exploring Gemini’s capabilities. Examples include playful ideas like “Teleport me to deep space,” “Give me a vintage or grunge look,” or “Turn my drawing into a storybook.” Other prompts highlight practical uses, such as “Brainstorm out loud with Live” or “Send me a daily news roundup,” offering users clear entry points into the app’s functionality. Google has not confirmed the changes publicly. When approached for comment, a company spokesperson stated there is no official announcement to make “just yet.” However, the presence of the new UI in the app’s code suggests the company is actively evaluating the shift. The revamp aims to make the Gemini app more visually engaging and intuitive, helping users discover what the AI can do without needing to figure it out through trial and error. This approach could better compete with the minimalist design of OpenAI’s ChatGPT app, which often presents a blank interface. The update may also capitalize on the popularity of Google’s newer AI image model, Nano Banana, which helped the Gemini app surge to the top of the App Store in September. At its peak, Gemini became the No. 1 downloaded app in the U.S. before being overtaken by Sora. A more visually driven interface could help maintain momentum and further strengthen Google’s position in the fast-evolving AI consumer market.
