SiLC Technologies Expands U.S. Manufacturing in Monrovia to Accelerate High-Performance Vision System Production

SiLC Technologies has expanded its Monrovia, California headquarters by approximately 30%, increasing the facility size to over 30,000 square feet and securing options for further growth. This expansion enables the company to establish a dedicated U.S.-based manufacturing hub for high-performance vision systems, supporting faster time to market and strengthening its position as a domestic supplier of advanced optical technologies. The new space will support end-to-end operations, including design, assembly, testing, and shipping of products—all under one roof. This vertical integration allows customers to visit the facility, observe production processes, conduct quality audits, and view live performance demonstrations. The move enhances transparency and trust, particularly for government and enterprise clients requiring stringent compliance and security standards. The Monrovia facility will focus on manufacturing products for perimeter security and custom-built solutions tailored to government needs. It complements SiLC’s existing global manufacturing network, which serves industrial automation, robotics, and mobility markets. Mehdi Asghari, CEO of SiLC Technologies, emphasized the strategic importance of the expansion. While SiLC remains a fabless company—outsourcing silicon photonics chip production to commercial foundries—it is now bringing system-level manufacturing in-house. “Our new facility, located adjacent to our R&D team, allows us to move from wafer to final product in weeks,” Asghari said. “This accelerates innovation and provides a reliable, domestic source for critical vision technologies.” The expansion also addresses growing concerns over U.S. reliance on foreign supply chains, particularly in photonics and related packaging components. Asghari noted that the U.S. depends heavily on China for these advanced parts. “This is just a small step forward on a long journey,” he said. “Our integration platform is designed to overcome packaging challenges through wafer-scale assembly and monolithic integration, enabling high-performance, cost-effective solutions even in higher-labor-cost environments—while creating high-value jobs.” SiLC’s investment supports Monrovia’s growing technology ecosystem. The company partners with local innovation groups like MADIA Tech Launch and collaborates with regional colleges to train the next generation of engineers and scientists. Monrovia Mayor Becky Shevlin praised the expansion, saying it reflects the city’s commitment to innovation and community-driven progress. “SiLC’s investment in Monrovia strengthens our local economy and inspires future innovators,” she said. SiLC Technologies, founded in 2018 by industry veterans, develops 4D+ vision systems that detect motion and velocity with high precision, enabling machines to perceive the world in new ways. Its breakthrough LiDAR chip has been recognized by Frost & Sullivan as a market disruptor, and the company has been named a Cool Vendor in Silicon Photonics by Gartner. Investors include Dell Technologies Capital, Sony Innovation Fund by IGV, Honda Xcelerator Ventures, FLUXUNIT – ams OSRAM Ventures, Alter Venture Partners, and Epson.
