Few Canadians Trained in AI Despite Growing Use, Survey Finds; Growclass Launches Certification to Bridge Skills Gap
A new survey by Growclass and Angus Reid reveals that despite AI becoming increasingly embedded in the Canadian workplace, a significant skills gap persists. Only 42% of Canadians are currently using AI tools at work, and just 12% have received formal training. This lack of preparation is creating a confidence gap, as only 33% of current users feel confident in their ability to use AI effectively. The findings highlight several troubling trends. Women are less confident in their AI skills than men (30% vs. 36%) and are more concerned about job replacement—29% of women fear AI could replace their role in the next five years, compared to 22% of men. HR professionals, despite being the most active AI users (81%) and receiving the most training (33%), are also the most anxious about automation, with 62% worried about being replaced. Despite these concerns, there is strong interest in upskilling. A striking 68% of Canadians said they would participate in AI training if offered by their employer. Nearly half (46%) believe employers should take primary responsibility for providing such training, followed by individuals (20%), education systems (7%), and government (4%). Regional differences also emerge, with Ontario and Quebec showing the highest demand for employer-led AI training (71%), while Atlantic Canada residents are the least interested (56%). Among professions, digital technology workers are the most confident in their AI abilities (56%), while marketing and communications professionals are slightly less so (38%). In response to these findings, Growclass has launched its AI Marketing and Strategy Certification, a six-week program designed to help marketing professionals build practical, values-aligned AI skills. The course includes hands-on training with real-world AI tools, live workshops, and a personalized 30/60/90-day integration plan. Participants also gain lifetime access to course materials and a supportive alumni community. Sarah Stockdale, CEO and Founder of Growclass, emphasized the urgency of addressing the gap. “AI is already central to how we work, but without proper training, it risks leaving people behind—especially women and underrepresented groups. Our program is built to empower people with the skills, confidence, and ethical framework to use AI intentionally, not fear it.” The survey, conducted from August 6 to August 11, 2025, included 1,012 online adult Canadians from the Angus Reid Forum, with results reported in both English and French. The margin of error is +/-3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. For more information or to enroll in the next cohort, visit growclass.co/ai-marketing-strategy-certification.
