Sazience Technology and WorldQuant University Launch Africa’s First AI and Data Science Co-op Academy in Douala
A new co-op initiative between WorldQuant University (WQU) and Sazience Technology is set to cultivate the next generation of data science talent across Africa. On October 1, 2025, Sazience Technology launched the Sazience Academy in Douala, Cameroon, in partnership with WQU to deliver advanced education in artificial intelligence, data science, and quantitative finance, while also providing participants with hands-on professional experience. The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application by allowing selected learners to work on live projects while pursuing their studies. This unique model enables students to develop technical expertise, build portfolios, and gain industry-relevant experience in a dynamic, fast-growing field. Sazience Technology, a technology and data science firm with a strong focus on innovation in Africa, is leading the implementation of the academy, leveraging its local presence and industry connections. WQU, a global, nonprofit online university known for its accessible, high-quality programs in quantitative fields, is providing the academic curriculum and pedagogical framework. The Sazience Academy is the first of its kind in the region, combining world-class education with practical, on-the-job training. It aims to address the growing demand for skilled data scientists and AI professionals in Africa, where digital transformation is accelerating across sectors such as finance, healthcare, agriculture, and logistics. By integrating learning with work, the program not only enhances employability but also empowers young African talent to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s technological advancement. The partnership reflects a broader effort to build homegrown expertise in data-driven innovation and to position Africa as a key player in the global AI and data science landscape.
