Sergey Brin Uses Gemini Live for AI-Powered Commute Conversations, Teases Upcoming Upgrade

Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, has been actively testing and using the company’s AI technology in his daily life, including during his commute. At a recent panel at Stanford University, when asked how he stays sharp, Brin revealed that he frequently engages with Gemini Live, Google’s voice-enabled AI chatbot, while driving. “I do talk to Gemini Live in the car often,” Brin said. “I just talk to it about stuff on my drive.” He shared a specific example: “I want to develop a data center, I need how many hundreds of megawatts of this kind of power, that kind of power, how much it’s going to cost.” The conversation highlighted the practical, real-time problem-solving capabilities Brin sees in the tool. Gemini Live, first introduced at Google I/O in May 2024, was made available to the public in September. It allows users to have natural, conversational interactions with AI through voice, making it ideal for hands-free use in cars. However, Brin was candid about its current limitations. “The publicly available version right now is not the good version,” he admitted. “Give me a few weeks to actually ship what I have access to.” He explained that the current version runs on an “ancient model” and that a significantly improved version is already in development. Brin emphasized that the upcoming release will offer far better performance, accuracy, and responsiveness. This push reflects Google’s broader strategy to integrate advanced AI directly into everyday tools. In November, the company launched Gemini 3, its most visually capable and factually accurate model to date. Notably, Gemini 3 was integrated into Google Search from day one, allowing users to access AI-powered answers simply by clicking “AI Mode” without switching apps. The release has drawn attention across the industry. Meta employees now have access to Gemini 3 Pro, underscoring its growing influence in the AI space. On the Stanford panel, Brin acknowledged that his enthusiasm for Gemini Live might come across as self-promoting. Still, he confirmed he does enjoy podcasts, with “The All In” podcast being one of his favorites. He has appeared on the show multiple times, further cementing his active role in the AI conversation.
