New Yorkers’ Dreams Take Shape in AI-Powered Art Project Across City’s Transit System

This November, New York City transforms into a living canvas of imagination through “Imagine If…,” a collaborative art initiative by Google and OUTFRONT. The project invites residents across all five boroughs to share their most daring visions for the city’s future, from skyscrapers turned vertical farms to brownstones glowing with neon energy. These dreams will be brought to life through generative AI and the creative vision of five local artists. Using Google’s generative AI tools, including Veo and Nano Banana, artists will transform community-submitted ideas into dynamic video artworks. As New Yorkers navigate the subway system, they’ll encounter digital screens displaying prompts and QR codes to submit their own “Imagine If…” concepts. Once submitted, users can instantly view AI-generated visualizations of their ideas—turning abstract dreams into vivid, shareable art. Each borough is represented by a unique artist who will curate and interpret the community’s visions. Ariana Cimino, a Staten Island illustrator, infuses her work with joy and whimsy, often featuring dogs as central characters. Her colorful, expressive style captures the spirit of everyday life with warmth and charm. Jeff Wave, based in Queens, blends music, architecture, and technology to create immersive, futuristic experiences. His multidisciplinary approach invites viewers to see the city not just as a place, but as a living, breathing story. Lauren Camara, a self-taught Bronx artist, constructs intricate portraits from cut paper, layering color and texture to tell deeply personal and community-driven stories. Her work highlights the beauty in ordinary moments and the strength found in neighborhood life. Molly Goldfarb, a Manhattan-based studio artist, brings bold energy to her acrylics, digital prints, and marker drawings. Her pop-meets-punk aesthetic pulses with movement and attitude, capturing the city’s rhythm and creative chaos. Subway Doodle, a Brooklyn-based artist and two-time Emmy winner, turns daily commutes into surreal adventures. His signature blue creatures appear in unexpected places, turning the mundane into magic. He’s the only artist besides Banksy to have a solo exhibition at the Banksy Museum. For four weeks, these artworks will appear on thousands of digital screens across the MTA subway system, turning the transit network into a dynamic, ever-changing gallery. The project culminates on December 14 in Times Square, where the most imaginative and powerful pieces will be displayed on OUTFRONT’s iconic screens. Even if you’re not in New York, you can join the creative movement. The Gemini app now features Veo and Nano Banana, allowing anyone to bring their own “Imagine If…” ideas to life. The project celebrates the power of collective imagination and the evolving role of AI in art, proving that the future of creativity is not just possible—it’s already unfolding.
