10 AI-Driven Startups Launch from Betaworks Camp with Focus on Next-Gen Interfaces and Human-Centric Tech
Ten early-stage startups have officially launched from Betaworks’ 13th Camp, the company’s renowned 13-week biannual residency program that has previously helped launch notable ventures like Hugging Face and Graze Social. This year’s cohort centers on the theme of Interfaces—companies building new ways people interact with AI, reflecting a shift from earlier themes focused on application layers and AI agents. Applications opened in June, with the program kicking off in August and culminating in a DemoDay on November 4th. The startups are pushing boundaries across AI interaction, human-computer communication, and ambient technology. Nora, founded by Sid Banothu, is a browser extension that tracks users’ shopping behaviors and patterns, offering insights to help improve decision-making and personalize online experiences. Primitive, created by Kasey Klines, is a web-based tool that allows users to speak their ideas aloud, which the platform then converts into structured to-do lists and actionable tasks. It integrates with productivity platforms like Notion and calendar apps to streamline workflow management. Patina, co-founded by Sean Raspet and Laura Sisson, is pioneering olfactory technology to create “scent photographs.” By combining protein folding, scent receptors, and graph neural networks, the company aims to digitally capture and reproduce complex smells. My Place, by Orange, developed by Helen Huang, is a platform that enables users to play immersive games simulating real-life experiences, from daily routines to social interactions, offering a unique blend of entertainment and behavioral insight. Putty, still in stealth mode, is led by founder Kevin Chang. Betaworks highlighted his deep engagement with foundational concepts like memory systems, ambient interfaces, and technologies designed to fit into the irregular rhythms of everyday life. Telepath, founded by Stephen Hood, Josh Whiting, and Rupert Manfredi, is a computer built entirely around AI with no traditional apps. The system is designed to respond to user needs intuitively, reimagining how computing interfaces with human cognition. Feather, founded by ShaoBo Zhang and Marco Yu, is a digital assistant that automates repetitive tasks—such as apartment hunting—by creating customized workflows that adapt to user preferences and behaviors. Nubrain, led by Priyanka Jain and Ingo Marquardt, is developing EEG-based systems that decode brain signals to translate thoughts into speech, text, and visual content. The goal is to enable direct communication between mind and machine. Presq, founded by Adam Saleh, Steve Burstyn, and Mikey Robins, empowers influencers to upload data that generates customizable prompts for designing physical products—starting with footwear and expanding into eyewear and home goods. Intension, founded by Conor Sanchez—O’Shea and Gabriel Duemichen, helps users maintain focus during desktop work by analyzing attention patterns and dynamically removing distracting elements from view. It maps workflow habits to optimize productivity. Together, these startups represent a bold exploration of how AI can reshape human interaction with technology—moving beyond screens and apps toward more intuitive, seamless, and deeply personal interfaces.
