Larry Page and Sergey Brin surge $112B in 10 months, now second and third richest globally as Alphabet’s AI momentum boosts stock to record highs

Alphabet co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have emerged as the second and third wealthiest individuals in the world by net worth gains this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As of Friday’s market close, Page’s fortune has increased by $58.5 billion and Brin’s by $53.8 billion over just under 10 months—surpassing gains made by Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg ($52.5 billion) and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang ($47.4 billion). Their combined wealth now stands at $439 billion, placing them fifth and sixth on the Bloomberg list, just behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who is worth $247 billion. Only Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has seen a larger increase in wealth this year, with a $151 billion rise. The surge in their fortunes is largely driven by Alphabet’s stock performance. Over the past three months, Alphabet shares have climbed 35%, reaching record highs above $260 per share. The company’s market capitalization has grown to $3.1 trillion, and Page and Brin each own approximately 6% of the company, which includes Google, YouTube, Waymo, and DeepMind. Their wealth jump began in earnest after a major development in late July, when a federal judge ruled in an antitrust case that Google would not be forced to divest its Chrome browser or Android operating system. The decision removed a significant legal risk that had been weighing on the stock. The company’s share price also rose last week after it announced a major partnership with AI startup Anthropic, helping to ease concerns that Alphabet was falling behind in the generative AI race. The broader market’s enthusiasm for AI leaders has fueled a wave of investor confidence in companies like Oracle, Nvidia, and now Alphabet. Buzzy deals, multibillion-dollar contracts, and strong growth forecasts have all contributed to the rally, significantly boosting the net worths of the tech industry’s most prominent figures. Page and Brin, once considered the "Google Guys" who had largely stepped back from day-to-day operations, are now seeing their fortunes re-energized by the same AI boom that has transformed the tech landscape. Their combined wealth now rivals that of Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, whose net worth is $451 billion. In fact, the pair’s total fortune exceeds the market value of major U.S. corporations such as Costco ($413 billion) and Bank of America ($385 billion).
