Elon Musk Reorganizes xAI, Reveals New Structure in All-Hands Meeting Amid Leadership Changes and Strategic Shifts
Elon Musk revealed the new organizational structure of xAI during an all-hands meeting held on Tuesday night, sharing updates on the company’s core initiatives and leadership roles. The presentation, later posted on X, detailed the teams responsible for four key projects: the main Grok product, Grok Voice, Grok Code, and Grok Imagine, as well as the Macrohard project, which aims to automate white-collar tasks. Musk explained that the reorganization, which took place a few days prior, was necessary to improve decision-making speed and operational agility. “XAI was reorganized a few days ago to improve speed of execution. As a company grows, especially as quickly as xAI, the structure must evolve just like any living organism,” Musk wrote on X. “This unfortunately required parting ways with some people. We wish them well in future endeavors.” The changes come shortly after cofounders Tony Wu and Jimmy Ba announced they had left the company. Over the past several days, multiple employees shared on social media that they had also exited xAI. According to people familiar with the situation, Musk had voiced frustration with the progress on Grok Imagine and Macrohard in recent months. Internal reports indicate that a small number of employees working on Macrohard were let go, and additional roles were eliminated a few weeks earlier, around the time Musk reshuffled teams between Wu and cofounder Guodong Zhang. The restructuring follows SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI, a move that was confirmed last week. The combined entity is preparing for an initial public offering later this year, according to an internal Q&A shared with xAI staff. The integration is expected to accelerate product development and scale operations. Despite the leadership changes, xAI continues to focus on advancing its AI models, particularly in areas like natural language understanding, code generation, and multimodal capabilities. The company remains committed to building a next-generation AI system capable of reasoning and problem-solving at a human level. A spokesperson for xAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
