84% of Fleets Use Safety Tech for Driver Exoneration, Teletrac Navman Report Reveals
A new report from Teletrac Navman, a leading connected mobility platform and a Vontier company, reveals that 84% of fleets consider driver exoneration a primary reason for adopting safety technology. Of fleets that experienced accidents in the past year, 53% were able to exonerate their drivers using data from safety systems. The research, titled Mobilizing the Future of Fleets: 2026 Risk and Exoneration Edition, also found that 34% of fleets have been affected by fraudulent motor claims. Additionally, 77% of respondents identified rising litigation and legal costs as a growing global concern—evidenced by increasing fleet insurance premiums. According to Risk Strategies, umbrella liability coverage has risen from 10% to 30%, while auto liability coverage has increased from 10% to 20%. Alain Samaha, CEO of Teletrac Navman, emphasized the evolving role of telematics in fleet operations. “Telematics is no longer just a cost-control tool. It has become a strategic, proactive solution for risk prevention and management,” he said. “Many safety incidents involve third parties or external factors, and video telematics now provides irrefutable, contextual evidence that protects drivers, preserves reputations, and stabilizes margins.” The report highlights that modern fleets are adopting a layered approach to risk management. Fifty-six percent use five or more safety technologies, and 74% combine telematics with dashcams. This integration delivers a complete picture of driving events by merging performance metrics, video footage, and location data—enabling faster, more accurate incident resolution and effective driver training. Since implementing safety technology, 85% of fleets report being able to offset rising insurance costs, with 65% experiencing actual premium reductions. Nearly three-quarters (70%) said that combining cameras with telematics significantly reduced the time required to process accident claims, turning disputes into clear, data-driven outcomes. “Fleet leaders now have a critical opportunity to make a strategic shift,” Samaha added. “Treat safety technology not as a line item, but as a long-term asset. Invest in scalable platforms that integrate evidence into daily operations, protect against fraud, and deliver measurable outcomes. When done right, safety becomes a competitive advantage—building resilience, reducing risk, and driving sustainable growth.” Teletrac Navman is a global connected mobility platform that empowers industries managing vehicle and equipment assets with intelligent, cloud-based solutions.
