Securian Financial and Reclaim Health have launched a new initiative that automatically processes and pays supplemental health insurance claims for select customers, eliminating the need for manual claim filings or extensive documentation. The program, powered by Reclaim Health’s artificial intelligence, analyzes claims submitted to major medical insurance and identifies qualifying supplemental benefits—such as accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity payments—on behalf of employees. Through this partnership, Securian has already paid over 100 claims in just a few months, with about 40 of those processed with no effort required from the employee. In one employer group, 39% of eligible employees enrolled in the auto-substantiated claims program, and many received benefits quickly and without any action on their part. The technology scans claims data from major medical plans and uses AI to determine eligibility for supplemental benefits. When a match is found, the claim is automatically submitted and paid, with employees receiving proactive notifications when they may be entitled to a payout. Securian expects that by the end of 2025, 20% of its supplemental health benefits portfolio will use this automated system, with major benefit administrators integrating the feature into their enrollment processes. Adam Taylor, Second Vice President of Employee Benefits Solutions at Securian Financial, said the program marks a significant shift in the claims experience. “For the first time, customers may receive benefits without needing to gather extensive documentation on their own—or having to remember to file a claim at all,” he said. We’re helping people focus on recovery, not paperwork.” Supplemental health insurance provides lump-sum payments after qualifying medical events, but many people fail to claim benefits due to confusion, stress, or the complexity of the process. The auto-substantiated claims tool helps close that gap by making benefits accessible without friction.
