Qualcomm Completes Acquisition of Alphawave Semi to Boost Data Center and AI Capabilities
Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) has completed its acquisition of Alphawave IP Group plc (AWE.L), known as Alphawave Semi, approximately one quarter ahead of schedule. The move marks a strategic step in Qualcomm’s expansion into the data center market, bringing in critical technology and talent to strengthen its AI and high-performance computing offerings. Tony Pialis, CEO and co-founder of Alphawave Semi, will lead Qualcomm’s newly expanded data center business. His leadership is expected to accelerate the integration of Alphawave’s high-speed connectivity solutions with Qualcomm’s existing portfolio. “Alphawave Semi’s expertise in high-speed connectivity technologies complements our Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors,” said Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated. “Qualcomm delivers high-performance, energy-efficient compute and AI solutions, and the addition of Alphawave’s technologies will strengthen our platforms and optimize performance for next-generation AI data centers.” Pialis welcomed the acquisition, calling it an “exciting new chapter” for Alphawave Semi. “We’re ready to bring our leadership in high-speed connectivity and custom silicon to help shape the future of data center innovation,” he said.
