Google Labs Unveils Mixboard: An AI-Powered Visual Concepting Tool for Idea Exploration
Mixboard is a new experimental tool from Google Labs that offers a fresh, AI-powered way to visualize and develop ideas. Designed as an open canvas concept board, Mixboard helps users explore, expand, and refine creative concepts across a wide range of areas—whether it’s home decor, event themes, product design, or DIY projects. With a blend of text and images, Mixboard lets you start from a simple text prompt or pick from a selection of pre-built boards to jumpstart your creativity. You can bring in your own visuals or use generative AI to create unique images tailored to your vision. The platform also features a new image editing model called Nano Banana, allowing you to make adjustments using natural language—like changing colors, rearranging elements, or combining images—without needing advanced design skills. One-click features such as “regenerate” and “more like this” let you quickly explore variations of your ideas, making it easy to iterate and discover new directions. Additionally, Mixboard can generate descriptive text based on the visual content on your board, helping you document and clarify your concepts. Currently available as a public beta in the United States, Mixboard is still in early development. Google describes it as an experiment aimed at making AI more accessible for creative exploration. The tool is designed to empower users of all backgrounds to turn abstract ideas into tangible, visual concepts with minimal friction. To try Mixboard, visit labs.google/mixboard.
