Reid Hoffman’s AI Strategy: Max Subscriptions and Multiple Agents for Peak Productivity
Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, has revealed his personal approach to leveraging artificial intelligence: using as many AI agents as possible. His strategy, while effective, comes at a significant cost. During a recent episode of "Moonshots with Peter Diamandis," Hoffman explained that he maximizes his AI usage by subscribing to the highest-tier plans across all major platforms. "I simply do the max subscription across all of them," he said. "And frequently when I'm doing something, I've actually already put on running — and now it's the OpenAI open-source model on my laptop to front end to parsing it out to multiple agents." Hoffman, who previously served on OpenAI’s board until 2023, emphasized that he doesn’t receive special perks like dedicated GPUs, despite being a Microsoft board member. Instead, he relies on a multi-platform AI setup—using ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude—then integrating the results for deeper insights. He acknowledged that even this extensive approach isn’t perfect. “I've got the personal hack, but not the personal cloud,” he admitted. Hoffman uses AI for deep research daily. His process begins with a prompt asking, “Give me the deep research prompt that will solve these or target these kinds of things.” He then provides a paragraph—either written or spoken—and receives a detailed, page-and-a-half response. He refines it before using it as the foundation for his work. This method reflects his broader vision for AI, which he explores in his new book, "Superagency: What Could Possibly Go Right with Our AI Future," co-authored with journalist Greg Beato. Hoffman has also experimented with AI-generated deepfake twins to better understand the technology’s implications. Replicating Hoffman’s setup is expensive. Top-tier subscriptions cost at least $100 per month: ChatGPT Pro is $200, Google Gemini is $249.99, and Copilot is $99 annually, plus an Office 365 license. Combined, his monthly spending on AI tools likely exceeds $650—though for someone with an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion, the cost is a small fraction of his resources.
