AI-Powered Dating App Amata Launches in US with Matchmaker AI and No Swiping

A new AI-powered dating app called Amata has launched in the United States, aiming to transform the online dating experience by replacing traditional swiping with intelligent matchmaking. Founded by Ludovic Huraux, the app uses an AI matchmaker—called an "Amata"—to guide users through a conversation about their preferences and goals. Based on the responses, the AI selects and pitches potential matches for real-life dates. Unlike conventional dating apps, Amata eliminates endless scrolling and inbox clutter. Instead, users pay a $16 token to initiate a date, which is used to cover the cost of planning. The AI then selects a location based on proximity and personal interests, and sends a brief message two hours before the date to confirm details. There are no ongoing direct messages between matches, promoting focused, intentional interactions. If a user cancels a date, they retain the token for future use. However, two consecutive cancellations trigger a seven-day pause in new match recommendations, a feature Huraux says is designed to discourage users who aren’t emotionally committed. After the date, the app follows up to gather feedback, which is used to refine the matching algorithm and improve future dates. Amata is not alone in leveraging AI to revitalize dating. Competitors like Sitch, Keeper, and Ditto are also introducing AI-driven approaches, while established platforms such as Bumble and Facebook Dating are exploring similar features. Huraux believes the current generation of dating apps has become a "numbers game" that fosters disconnection, and he sees AI as a tool to "rehumanize" the process. Huraux previously founded Attractive World in 2007, which he sold to Affinitas GmbH in 2016. He later launched Shapr, a professional networking app acquired by the Lincoln Group in 2023. Amata, now live in New York with plans for broader U.S. rollout, is a seven-person team based in New York and Paris. The company raised $6 million in pre-seed funding in 2023, led by Cassius, with support from Factorial Capital, Hugging Face founder Clement Delangue, and ex-Zenly founder Antoine Martin. As the dating app market faces declining user satisfaction and rising fatigue, AI-driven platforms like Amata represent a growing trend toward more meaningful, curated connections—using technology not to replace human interaction, but to enhance it.
