NEXCOM Joins NVIDIA Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab to Streamline Robot Safety Certification and Development
NEXCOM Group, a tech company based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has announced that its robotics subsidiary, NexCOBOT, has joined NVIDIA's Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab. The partnership was highlighted during the recent GTC Paris event, aimed at advancing the safe development of various robots, particularly humanoid designs. According to Jenny Shern, General Manager of NexCOBOT, joining the lab will help developers save considerable time and resources on achieving safety certifications, essential for deploying robots in human-centric environments. NexCOBOT was formed in 2018 to specialize in safe robot controls. The company offers a range of products and services, including open-architecture robot/motion controllers, functional safety controllers, key peripheral components, and robot design verification consulting. It has been supporting robotics manufacturers by providing robust development tools and expertise. NVIDIA claims to be the first company globally to establish an AN AB-accredited AI Systems Inspection Lab that integrates functional safety, cybersecurity, AI, and regulatory compliance. This lab aims to streamline the development and certification process for advanced robots. As one of the first companies to join, NexCOBOT will integrate its products with NVIDIA’s IGX Thor and the expanded Halos platform to create a comprehensive, one-stop solution for robot development and safety standards. The combined efforts of NVIDIA and NexCOBOT will address several key challenges in robot development. Currently, mainstream robot manufacturers often act as systems integrators, requiring extensive coordination and time to achieve a cohesive design. High precision and real-time responsiveness in robot motion demand stringent integration processes, and minor discrepancies can lead to functional issues. Additionally, obtaining regulatory safety certifications can take up to four to five years, significantly slowing down innovation. By leveraging NVIDIA’s IGX Thor platform and NexCOBOT’s safety-certified motion modules, the collaboration aims to shorten the development and certification timeline to just two years. The IGX Thor platform provides powerful AI computing capabilities, while NexCOBOT’s modules ensure compliance with international safety standards, such as IEC 61508 and ISO 13849-1. This integration will simplify complex development processes, making it easier for developers to create innovative and safe robots. The modular design of the new platform will also offer flexibility, allowing for customized functionalities based on specific customer needs. This adaptability is crucial for deploying robots in diverse environments, from industrial settings to collaborative workspaces where human safety is paramount. NexCOBOT’s commitment to safety is evident through its adherence to global standards. Its hardware and software solutions have been designed to facilitate easy compliance with ISO 10218-1, a critical standard for industrial and collaborative robots. By becoming a certified member of the NVIDIA Halos lab, NexCOBOT enhances its ability to support the robotics industry, making the development of safe, efficient, and innovative robots more accessible. Industry insiders view this collaboration as a significant step forward in the robotics sector. The integration of AI, motion control, and functional safety on a single platform is expected to catalyze the development of next-generation robots, particularly in fields where human interaction is frequent. This partnership aligns with NVIDIA’s broader mission to accelerate AI in various industries, while NexCOBOT’s focus on safety and reliability adds a crucial layer of trust and confidence. NEXCOM Group, known for its robust IoT automation solutions, has recently refreshed its brands, with NexCOBOT maintaining a strong presence. The company's participation in the 2025 Robotics Summit & Expo underscores its commitment to advancing robotics technology and safety standards. This strategic move positions NEXCOM and NexCOBOT as leaders in the development of reliable, efficient, and safe robotic systems.
