DuckDuckGo Introduces New Setting to Filter Out AI-Generated Images from Search Results
Tired of AI-generated images cluttering your search results? DuckDuckGo, the privacy-focused browser and search engine, has introduced a new setting that allows users to hide these images from their searches. "Our philosophy about AI features is 'private, useful, and optional.' Our goal is to help you find what you're looking for. You should decide for yourself how much AI you want in your life—or if you want any at all," the company announced on X last week. To make this possible, DuckDuckGo has integrated with open-source blocklists, such as uBlock Origin's "nuclear" list and uBlacklist's "Huge AI Blocklist," giving users greater control over the types of images they encounter. There are two methods to manage this feature: 1. Per-Search Filtering: When you perform an image search on DuckDuckGo, you can click the AI Images dropdown menu and select "Hide." This will temporarily remove AI-generated images from your current search results. 2. Global Setting: For a more permanent solution, go to the gear icon on the DuckDuckGo page, select "Manage" under AI Features, and toggle the switch to "On." This will ensure that all your image searches automatically filter out AI-generated content. This update is significant because it offers users unprecedented control over AI-generated content. Unlike Google, which does not provide such filtering options, DuckDuckGo is leading the way in allowing users to customize their search experience. As AI-generated images become increasingly prevalent in search results, this feature will likely become even more valuable for those who prefer to avoid them.
