Google Refreshes Snapseed with Major iOS Update, Adding New Features and Improved Layout

Google has released a major overhaul for its Snapseed image editing app on iPhone and iPad. This is the first substantial update for iOS users since the addition of dark mode in 2021. Snapseed, initially an iOS-only app, was acquired by Google in 2012 as part of its strategy to rival Instagram. Following the acquisition, the app became available on Android and was made free to use. It offers a range of powerful tools for editing RAW and JPG files, along with a variety of filters, including new vintage effects introduced in this latest update. The new version 3.0 redesigns the user interface, making it more intuitive and streamlined. A new "Faves" option has been added to the central part of the bottom toolbar, enabling users to save their favorite tools for quick access. The "Looks" tab, which remains on the left side of the toolbar, still allows for saving and sharing customized presets. The "Export" function has been relocated from the right side of the toolbar to the top-right corner, while a new "Tools" tab now occupies the right position on the bottom toolbar. In a statement to The Verge, Google spokesperson Michael Marconi highlighted the company's commitment to enhancing the user experience: “We’re bringing a whole new look and feel to Snapseed on iOS. Over the years, many people have enjoyed using Snapseed to edit their photos, so we’re excited to give it a fresh design with a more intuitive layout and a few new features.” However, the update is not yet available for Android users. When asked about a similar release for Android, Marconi stated that Google does not have any immediate plans to share. This means iOS users will be the first to enjoy the revamped interface and additional features, while Android users will need to wait for further updates.
